As soon as Michael and I got engaged, I just knew that we would get married in Cyprus, instead of going home. After so many years together, and two beautiful babies, I knew that I didn’t want a big white wedding. I wanted lots of great food, amazing weather and all our friends and family together. And that is exactly what we got. The entire week of our wedding was spent introducing A&E to family they had not yet met drinking, eating and laughing. And the weather was glorious! No need for a Child of Prague the night before the big day. It is easy to see how you can have a dream wedding Cyprus.
We had a small budget but I managed to get some amazing bargains on eBay and had a very good friend do my wedding flowers. Saving in some places meant that I was able to spend big on things like the photography. I had my dress made and I got my *amazing* shoes from Irregular Choice.
The only difficult part of the whole wedding was the certificate that we had to obtain from the Irish Embassy. The cert is issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs and states that you have not been previously married. There was a lot of information required for this and a lot of back and forth between us, the embassy and the town hall in Larnaca. Thankfully, we were able to deal with it without too much stress.
Even though I was pretty stressed out in the run up to the wedding, I still believe it was easier than if we got married at home. Getting married in Cyprus was definitely the best decision we made. In saying that, I do believe that getting married abroad can be difficult and that is why I have included some of the people that made our wedding so special.
Vendors we used (and highly recommend!)
Here are just some of the vendors that we chose for our wedding:
Hair – Mary Beecher Mary is the loveliest Irish lady I know. A little bit crazy (like me!!) and excellent at what she does. I’ve had Mary do my hair for other occasions and I would recommend her to any bride looking to get her hair done!
Make- Up – Collette Wright There are many (MANY!) Facebook groups dedicated to weddings in Cyprus and Collette came highly recommended from many past brides. Collette did a fantastic job on all our makeup. I was particularly impressed with how she didn’t kill me for jumping up every two minutes to run after A&E when I was getting my make up done!!
DJ – DJ Alex Alex was just fantastic. From the Mr & Mrs game (where Michael and I couldn’t decide which one of us had more brothers and sisters!!!) to the lighting, the music and the karaoke, Alex really helped make our wedding amazing!
Photography – Amanda Trigg Photography. Amanda was our only choice for our photography and I am so glad that she was available on our date. From the very minute that she started taking pictures she made us feel at ease. We had so much fun looking back at the pictures that she took and remembering all the bits we had forgotten about.
Venue – Nautical Club Beach n Joy. The nautical club is right on the beach and had an intimate feeling (and an amazing view!). The food was amazing and John could not have done any more for us. Two months later and people are still talking about how amazing the venue was.
And now for some pictures. These are just a few of my most favourite pictures.
